UPERFECT BE156EF Wireless Portable Monitor Reviewed by Shane Craig
Over the last few weeks, as I have been primarily using the Galaxy Zfold 8, one thing I have also been doing a lot of is using Samsung Dex.
Now, typically my go-to for that has been the most recent Nex dock. This is a lap dock that looks like a laptop, but you plug your phone into it instead or your Steam Deck, your Nintendo Switch, whatever it is that you want to use. In this case, my phone. There are other ways to use Samsung Dex and today we're going to be exploring, I think, a pretty interesting one.
So, this does come from UPERFECT. This is a company that I've looked at some of their products in the past. And you may look at this and just think, well, this just looks like a little portable monitor. And you're right, it is a portable monitor, but it's a wireless portable monitor . The setup process, actually getting going is going to be a lot simpler because you just basically turn the thing on, wirelessly connect, and you're just done at that point.
Design and Build Quality
Lightweight 15.6-Inch Portable Design

So, here is the monitor itself. Like I showed you earlier, this is a 15.6 diagonal screen. It's not a touch screen. That would probably like really take it over the top for me. I do want to point out that it is very very light. It's like actually like exceptionally light.
Weight Comparison Between Two 15.6 Inches Displays

I'm going to try to just do this vertically and get the weight of this thing. I don't know how easy this is going to be. It looks like we're right around like 760 770 g something like that.

This is another 15.6 in monitor. And I mean it's you can see there it's over 1,200.
Kickstand, Controls, and Ports

On the back side, you can see we have this little kickstand mechanism here. And if you fold this up out of the way, you can get to some different buttons and some ports on the other side.
So, obviously, this is your power button and your menu button. Plus, minus, volume, brightness. You get the general idea what these buttons do.
Headphone Jack

And there is a 3.5 mil headphone jack.
USB-C and Mini HDMI Connections

On the other side, we do have some ports. So, we have a couple of USBC ports. And then we have I think that's a mini or a I think it's a mini HDMI port.
Connectivity and Easy Setup
Simple Wireless Connection Without Extra Cables

It's got its own battery. There's no cable connecting your phone to the screen. So, it's a lot simpler. With most other portable monitors, you're going to be plugging your phone into that monitor.
Your phone might be powering the monitor, which means your phone is going to be dying even faster. You could also plug the monitor into a power source, but again that's, you know, getting less and less portable at that point. So, I do think this is a pretty interesting concept just for the pure simplicity of it.
Using Samsung DeX Wirelessly

So when the thing is powered up, let's try and get that centered a little bit better.
When the thing is powered up, using it is really, really simple. So this is my Samsung Galaxy ZFold 8.
And the way that I'm going to use it is I'm going to jump into my quick settings. And you see where it says wireless Dex? I'm going to turn that on.

And I can just hit start now and within just a couple of moments I'm going to be running Samsung Dex directly on this monitor.
Using BE156EF as a Portable Monitor for Laptop

So, when I'm not using something like Samsung Dex, I do have a Microsoft Surface laptop. So, we could use this as a second monitor or a second monitor again wirelessly for my desktop. So, let's check that out real quick. All you have to do just like it says here, hit Windows K, select the device, it's going to connect, and within just a couple of seconds here, we should be off and running.

And let me just tell you, this way I'm really not detecting much latency. Maybe because my Surface Laptop trackpad is like really, really good. But this feels pretty much exactly the same to me as it as how it feels on my laptop.
Smart View Option

Something else I'll quickly show you is the smart view option, which is going to work just fine as well on my Samsung device. We'll go ahead and open this up and we'll connect via smart view. And what you're going to see here is the screen just being mirrored.
And again, you know, the latency seems pretty decent here. Definitely some artifacting going on as I'm doing a lot of things, moving around a lot. You do get some more artifacting happening.
But if you wanted to do this, you wanted to fire this thing up and watch a video, you could absolutely do that. and that's going to work just fine here on my ZFold.
Full Screen Mode

We also should be able to go in here and change aspect ratio. Let's do full screen on the connected device and we'll go back into this video.

And now that’s a completely full-screen appearance.
Performance Testing: Latency and Responsiveness
Wired Phone Keyboard Connection vs Wireless Keyboard Mode
Using your phone as a wireless trackpad

Now, of course, I can just use my phone as a trackpad and that does work just fine. So, I can do whatever I need to do here. I can mouse around. I can maximize this web browser. I can scroll whenever I need to type something.

But it does actually come with this wireless foldable keyboard with a touchpad. So, let's divert our attention for just a moment and we'll take a look at this.
So, just as a little size comparison, there it is next to my Galaxy Zfold 8. It's pretty small and it's pretty light.
Your Phone as a Wired Trackpad

But if you are super adverse to that latency, you know, let's test this. Let's actually plug the thing in directly and see what we have.
So, we are now connected wired. And you may look at this and think, Shane, this looks exactly the same. And it does, but it does definitely feel different. Okay, I'm not going to lie to you and say that this does not feel more responsive with my my Pebble mouse. It absolutely does.
Could I handle it the way it was before? Yeah, absolutely. But I mean, if I'm going to be doing this for like a long period of time, this is absolutely the way to do it. This feels like I'm just using any other computer, which is nice.

You know, maybe if we're talking about that ghosting effect that seems to be gone like this, okay? Because I mean, yeah, this is wired. So, obviously, the bandwidth is much much higher. But by and large, it's really just the latency. It's the feel of the mouse changing.
Gaming Latency Test

So, I think one more like really solid way to test how this is actually feeling is to kind of push it to a limit here and try playing something like Minecraft.
And, you know, you can definitely see a little bit more of the latency, you know, happening as I'm I'm running around and the screen is having to change so many different things.

But I do think that once I kind of get my speed dialed in a little bit better, I think it’s a level of latency that I would eventually just kind of like get used to.
Battery Life, Audio and Accessories
Built-in Speakers

So, this thing does have a built-in speaker, but like a lot of portable monitors, pretty much all of them, it doesn't sound that great.
Let me give you a quick audio test so that you can hear it, and then we'll switch to my phone speaker and you can hear why you can pretty much just ignore it.
Built-in Battery Performance

Uh you can see that my charge is at about 69%. They're rating this thing to be good for about 4 hours on a charge. I think that's round about correct. And then it takes about two hours USBC to charge it back up.
Keyboard

It's pretty small and it's pretty light. I got to tell you, it kind of does have like a fairly cheap feel to it. It's definitely just made of plastic. You have an onoff button here. USBC charging on the side. And it just kind of flops open.
This hinge is a little bit, you know, a little bit floppy, I guess. But hey, look, it's a mouse and it's a track or it's a keyboard and a trackpad, and it's going to get the job done.
Final Verdict
So guys, that is the UPERFECT BE156 EF. I could see this being used for a business right now on their website. It is $199. Definitely a little bit steep, but there's good news.
